The Blue Whale Game: Children Commit Suicide

The Blue Whale game: Children commit suicide

No one wants to commit suicide. It is in fact the case that most people who take the step are convinced that there is no possible way out. It’s the last thing they have to resort to, the last place to go to escape a painful life. The terrible Blue Whale game  confuses most of us, but there is a crucial point here: in today’s world, thousands of children and teenagers are floating through dark waters of sadness, loneliness and vulnerability. They need help.

Maylen is 13 years old and lives in a small town in Colombia. Here life seems normal and she is not very different from another child of the same age. A few days before she committed suicide by hanging herself with a belt, she asked her mother if blue whales existed“They exist and there are probably not many left. They will be exterminated, ”  replied Mrs. Villamizar, who could never have imagined what her daughter was thinking.

Maylen is not the only one who took that step. There have been around 130 young people around the world who have completed the 50 terrible steps in this “game.”

In this game, you win by completing a “last mission”. This mission is to take your own life. To make it even more intimidating, the game warns that if one does not finish, they will find the IP address of the players and maybe someone will kill their friends and family.

Many would say that the world of social media and virtual communities is evil. But behind all this, there is a special thought that stands out: the world, whether we believe it or not, is full of blue whales. They are precious, fragile creatures that represent the things we subconsciously or consciously deny: loneliness, fear, insecurity…

It’s time to make a decision. The opposite of the ” blue whale ” is the ” pink whale “. The pink whale is a fantastic initiative that was created as a reaction to the blue whale. The game that unfortunately kills very young people.

Blue whales try to get out of the painful life

Oddly enough, the game’s name has very little to do with the precious animal it is named after. The blue whale is the largest animal on our planet. They are graceful swimmers and cross seas extremely fast.

They are also the loudest animals on our planet. They can emit sound waves, grunts and moans that can be heard approx. 1500 km away. They are possibly one of nature’s most fascinating creatures.

But our “blue whales”,  those who swim on asphalt and in the world of social media, are quiet creatures. They are people who are not noticed. They can also be characterized by a special mental vulnerability and a lack of stable role models.

When asked how a 12, 13 or 18 year old person can decide to start participating in this game where they are asked to do both humiliating and painful things, we need to keep several aspects in mind.

How can a young person decide to participate in this game?

The Blue Whale game gives children and teenagers an opportunity to become unique in a world where they feel invisible.

It is a world where many of them do not find their place or something they can be equated with. Every self-harming act and every terrible challenge becomes an achieved goal. They see it as brave actions because they have fought pain, fear and indecision…

They are “victories” that they proudly publish to get a psychological reinforcement and motivation. Motivation to continue.

Besides,  just the act of starting this game makes them feel like a part of something. It is a project that entails a commitment.

We can not forget that being a teenager is a searching period in life, where a person without good friends or a family who can give them stability and security, will look elsewhere for how they can protect themselves from loneliness.

They sometimes search in the worst possible place.

Finally, the Blue Whale game offers these kids and teens a long journey full of awful challenges. The challenges give the impression of having to strengthen self-confidence.  But what the children do not know is that they are subject to sadistic and cruel culprits.

Blue whales can become pink whales

We have to wake up: there is more than one blue whale swimming around us. But you have to be careful not to scare them or criticize who they are, how they feel or that they are curious about the game. Because when you punish, judge, or make fun of, the blue whales will swim away from you. You have to guide them smartly, warmly and carefully, so that with your help, they can become pink whales.

As the WHO explains, close to 4% of the population suffers from depression. Every year, more than 800,000 people choose to take their own lives. For them, it is the only way to stop the suffering. A large part of this number are young people between the ages of 13 and 25. On top of that, there are almost 16 million people doing self-harm, especially teenagers. Therefore, we must focus on changing how we raise and educate children. We need more tools in schools and definitely more programs like the pink whale challenge. The pink whale challenge aims to stimulate a positive attitude with the help of 50 fun samples. Every step of the way involves a new beginning in life – not an unhappy end.

Prevention and supervision

The family plays an important role in these scenarios. So let’s keep these guidelines in mind as we move forward:

  • Parents need to be emotionally available when it comes to listening to their children.
  • The current economic situation in many countries makes it more difficult for families to spend time together. But the little time we possibly have should be quality time. In this way, we build trust and closeness to our children.
  • We must give our children opportunities and tools to create good relationships with their peers, and always be on the lookout for isolation.
  • We must remember the need to value our children and give them positive reinforcements so that they can have a strong self-confidence.

Last but not least, we need to be aware of whether their mood or behavior is changing. We must also regularly follow what they do and what they share on their social media. This is the key to avoiding terrible situations that we have around us on all sides and closer than we think.
