We always want everything under control, and when it seems that we have finally got there, we end up succumbing to exhaustion. Trying to reconcile work, family, love life, home and friends is an increasingly complex issue. Our lives get busier and busier as the years go by. More and more responsibility rests on our shoulders and we want to meet them all. This is where burnout syndrome comes from.

Among those most affected by this syndrome are fathers and mothers, who sometimes see their own interests put aside for the benefit of their children. If this is you, the time has come to act. If we neglect ourselves, paradoxically as it may seem, we will end up exhausted, without strength. We will also end up neglecting our children.

Although it may seem ridiculous, we often think that we can start working early in the morning, take care of our children, have a healthy life, meet relatives once a week, go out at night with friends – and still be in able to sleep. Unfortunately, we are not superheroes. We must learn to organize our time more realistically.

If you can not sleep properly, if you become obsessive in your mind, and if you blame everyone around you for your problems. You go to sleep, do not care about your social life and instead just sleep on the couch. This will lead to isolation. Your loved ones may stop counting on you, and you will begin to feel alone and guilty.

What should we do about burnout syndrome?

To solve the problem, there are some important things we should take into account:

  • Let’s accept that we can not do everything. We are not able to do everything we want. Sometimes we think we have time for all our responsibilities and leisure as well, but that is not always true.
  • This of course means that we must start delegating. We should not be afraid to put different responsibilities in the hands of others when our health is at stake. Then we will be able to rest and pick up the tasks when we feel stronger.
  • Some things simply cannot be delegated, and even if we do not like the idea, we may have to give up some of the things we really like. If we do not have time to clean and keep our house in order, we should perhaps not think about buying a larger one. Or as much as the kids might want a pet, if we do not have time for ourselves, it may not be so good.
  • To organize our lives , we must first organize our minds. We need to establish priorities. There may be aspects of our lives that seem important to us, but in reality they are not. It is important to think about what we could live without.
  • Do not blame yourself (or others). Guilt is a feeling that prevents us from moving forward. Remember that while our intentions may be good when we try to reconcile things, if we do not meet our goals, it is important not to blame ourselves. Instead, we must try to come up with solutions and not blame the people around us, even if it feels good to do so.

Enjoy the little things

We should not feel like a failure just because we do not have everything under control. We can fit more in our minds than in our hands, and that’s not a bad thing. In fact, our main goal should be to find time to enjoy the little moments, both on our own and with others. Let’s find peace and spread it.
