Change Arises From Your Examples, Not Your Opinions

Change arises from your examples, not your opinions

The principle behind education is to lead as an example. In fact, each of us is someone else’s point of reference – a source of influence. Because of this, opinions that are not followed by examples are not effective. Even bad examples are more useful than good opinions. They are a point of reference that teaches us what we should not do.

From childhood to old age, we learn through examples and direct experiences. This type of  learning  occurs by observing the behavior of other people, and a number of factors are required for this to happen. In particular, the person setting an example must be interesting to the observer. In addition, for indirect learning, it is preferred that the behavior be a tool and repeated after seeing an example.

Learning by example pays off, often faster and more efficiently than any other type of learning. Of course,  there are certain behaviors, especially risky behaviors, that cannot be learned by example alone.

There is nothing sadder than good advice followed by bad examples.

Examples – the only education

How many people can a good example attract? How many can you grasp with your opinions? Apart from  oral skills  and a good defense of our opinions, examples are more pedagogical because they reinforce the opinions of the learner. They may appreciate the possible consequences of certain behaviors.

Education  is not only obtained through lectures. There must be something practical about teaching – that is the main goal of learning. If we want to teach our children, our nephews, or our students, we need to keep in mind that our actions make a greater impression than our words.

It is inappropriate to give a series of messages and then not show the same behavior you ask to receive from others.  Whether it is social, personal or with the family. This type of person is not an effective role model, because there is a difference between their words and their actions. They send contradictory messages to the person observing them.

Words move you, an example draws you

The example is the only teaching that everyone can read. Words, on the other hand, are filled with connotations and hidden meanings. We can not deny that words can be  healing  and can produce a change in perspective. However, words usually do not have a lasting effect when it comes to changing a situation.

If we want to change our attitude, our schedule, or our habits, it is not enough to say that we will do it again and again. Facts are what will make a difference. It is true that words make us notice and make us think of appropriate examples. But it is only when the behavior matches the words or when the change has been made that we can say that the learning has been completed.

Words have the power to convince when they are heard, but examples have the power of truth seen and lived. Words are even more powerful when followed by a personal example, but words without action are like a piece of metal. It resonates, but without any particular validity.

People who use only words can convince others, but only for a short time, unless they support their words with examples and the  experiences  of consequences. One can find the power behind words through the examples of the speaker. If there are no examples, what is said becomes only abstract.
