5 Amazing Monuments Inspired By Love

There are many men, powerful or not, who at one point decided to create monuments inspired by love. Just as artists dedicated many monuments to great heroes and impressive battles, there are also many a tribute to love, this beautiful and deep feeling we all experience at some point in life.

Many of these love-inspired monuments are well-known throughout the world. They fascinate us with their exquisite beauty and the enormous effort that was put into them.  Almost all of them are a testimony to the great love.

The act of embarking on these great projects shows that these men were so in love that they wanted to build things that would last through the ages. And so they did. These five monuments were inspired by love.

1. The Taj Mahal, one of the most beautiful monuments inspired by love

The Taj Mahal is located in Agra, India. The Muslim emperor Shah Jahan was the person who built this beautiful mausoleum. It is one of the most symbolic monuments inspired by love.

As the story goes, the prince met a woman named Arjumand at a young age and fell in love with her. Although he had two other wives, he married her five years later and called her “the ornament of the palace.” They loved each other endlessly and had 13 children together.

During the birth of their 14th child, Arjumand died. Saddened and inconsolable, the emperor ordered the construction of the most amazing mausoleum he could imagine. The most valuable stones, marble and decorations were brought to the city from all over the planet. Today, the monument is the resting place of both the king and queen.

2. Coral Castle

Coral Castle is not only one of the largest love-inspired monuments. It is also shrouded in mystery. It was built by Edward Leedskalnin, an immigrant from Latvia who moved to Florida in the United States.

Structures are excluded made of coral stone and weigh a total of 1000 tons. Leedskalnin cut, moved and placed each block of coral stone all by itself. He did it at night, in total darkness and loneliness.

This man was a builder and a diligent reader. His life changed when he met Agnes Skuvst in her home country. She was 10 years younger than Edward, but she became the great love of his life. They were to marry, but she left him just before the wedding was to take place. That was when Edward decided to emigrate. He built Coral Castle in honor of her great love, and hoped that one day she would return to live in the castle with him. Many people also believe that it contains secrets related to electromagnetism.

3. Mirabell Castle

Mirabell Castle is located in Salzburg, Austria. It was built in 1606 by Archbishop Wolf Dietrich Raitenau, who erected it in honor of his beloved, Soledad Alt. First, the building was called Altenau. They created unforgettable memories there. Soledad had 15 children, but only 5 survived.

In 1612, the archbishop was forced to resign. He was sent to prison and died there. Later, Archbishop Franz Anton von Harrach made many changes to the castle. Among other things, he changed his name to Mirabell. The place became very famous and Mozart held many concerts there.

4. Kissed

The kiss is a sculpture installed in Peru’s “Park of Love”, or love park, in Miraflores. The creator is Victor Delfin, and the monument depicts Delfin kissing his great love, Ana María. The place has naturally become a traditional meeting place for lovers.

Next to the statue there is a wall that holds romantic quotes from hundreds of lovers.  Some of them are “I undress you like one would take the peel of a fruit” by Jorge Díaz Herrera and “I’m on fire from the desire to see the empty space your body leaves behind” by Washington Delgado.

5. Temple of Nefertaris

Pharaoh Ramses II of Egypt is responsible for building the temple of Nefertari. He wanted to give his wife Nefertari a gift that would make her speechless. She was her favorite wife, and his love for her was very deep. The dedication at the entrance says it all: “This work belongs for all eternity to the great royal wife Nefertari-Merienmut, for she as the sun shines”.

As we can see, all these monuments are inspired by love and serve as a testimony to how powerful this feeling is. They were all ordered and erected as symbols of passion, and to capture the intensity of their emotions.
